Maj. Gen. Teshome Ayana paid a courtesy call on Maj. Gen. Frederick Leuria, representing the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). During the meeting, Maj. Gen. Teshome provided a comprehensive briefing on CTSAMVM’s ongoing monitoring activities across South Sudan.
He highlighted CTSAMVM’s mandate to monitor, verify, and report on the implementation of the ceasefire and security arrangements stipulated under the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS). Discussions focused on strengthening the collaboration between CTSAMVM and the Kenya Defence Forces, as well as exploring ways to enhance support for the Mission during the remainder of the Transitional Period. Maj. Gen. Teshome also expressed appreciation to the KDF for the professional personnel seconded to support CTSAMVM’s operations.
In response, Maj. Gen. Frederick Leuria, on behalf of the KDF Chief of the Defence Forces, reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to working closely with CTSAMVM and IGAD in support of peace efforts in South Sudan. He emphasized that the R-ARCSS remains the most viable framework for achieving sustainable peace and security in the country and pledged the continued support of the Kenya Defence Forces to the ceasefire monitoring and verification process.
