The briefing, attended by Maj. Gen. Frederick Leuria, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces, focused on the current security situation in South Sudan and the progress of monitoring and verification activities under the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
Outgoing CTSAMVM Chairperson Maj. Gen. Teshome Ayana described the security environment as fragile, noting that the implementation of key transitional security arrangements continues to face significant delays, and expressed sincere appreciation to the Government of Kenya and the KDF for their steadfast support.
Taking over the leadership of CTSAMVM, Maj. Gen. Dr. Hailu Atomsa emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with South Sudan’s RTGoNU and all Signatory Parties to the peace agreement. He said the mechanism would continue working with national stakeholders to promote a durable and inclusive peace process.
In response, Maj. Gen. Leuria praised Major General Teshome for his service. He assured the new leadership that the KDF would remain actively engaged in supporting the implementation of the PCTSA and the peace process, as it is essential to regional stability and security.
