(20/7/2023)-Juba-South Sudan_- The Chairperson of CTSAMVM today held a meeting with the UK Ambassador to South Sudan, HM Ambassador Guy Warrington.
During the meeting, CTSAMVM Chairperson Maj Gen Hailu Gonfa underscored the importance of the Troika’s commitment to supporting the peace process in South Sudan.
“The United Kingdom’s support for the R-ARCSS and its implementation has been huge, as has your financial and political support to CTSAMVM through the Troika, and EU. We also very much appreciate your valuable in-kind support.”
Maj Gen Hailu during the meeting discussed with HM Ambassador Warrington the status of the implementation of the PCTSA as South Sudan prepares for a general election next year.
Maj Gen Hailu further said that monitoring the implementation of Chapter II remains a priority for CTSAMVM and that the mechanism continues to report the critical tasks which are now years behind schedule.
Meanwhile, HM Ambassador Guy Warrington said that the UK is very supportive of CTSAMVM as it is monitoring the ceasefire. He also said that reports produced by CTSAMVM are valued by the UK.
“We value reports that particularly name individuals or groups that are responsible for violations. That makes them much more useful in terms of holding the perpetrators of the ceasefire to account.”
He reiterated that the UK will continue to support CTSAMVM politically and in kind.
