The IGAD Head of Mission in South Sudan, Dr. Victoria Anib, visited the headquarters of the CTSAMVM.
The visit provided an opportunity to introduce the incoming CTSAMVM Chairperson, Maj. Gen. Dr. Hailu Atomsa, and Maj. Gen. Mohamed Esheikh, and to strengthen coordination between IGAD and CTSAMVM.
South Sudan remains a core priority within IGAD’s peace and security agenda, particularly in the areas of conflict prevention, mediation, and the implementation of peace agreements. In line with its mandate, CTSAMVM compiles reports based on verified information gathered through its mobile monitoring and verification activities and submits them to the IGAD Council of Ministers for further consideration and action.
The outgoing Chairperson, Maj. Gen. Teshome stated, “South Sudan stands at a pivotal moment in its peace journey. While the risks of renewed conflict remain significant, there is still a genuine opportunity to consolidate existing progress and guide the country towards lasting peace, stability, and national reconciliation”.
The visit reinforced the importance of continued cooperation between IGAD and CTSAMVM in supporting the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and advancing sustainable peace and stability in South Sudan.
