The Executive Secretary of the IGAD, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, concluded a two-day high-level visit to Juba yesterday to review the implementation of the R-ARCSS.
During his engagements with South Sudanese leaders and stakeholders, Dr. Workneh reiterated IGAD’s unwavering commitment to supporting the country’s peace process. He also met with the outgoing Chairperson, Maj. Gen. Yitayal Gelaw and incoming Chairperson Maj. Gen. Teshome Ayana to discuss critical obstacles facing CTSAMVM’s monitoring, verification, and reporting work under the Revitalized Peace Agreement. Key issues included limited access to conflict hotspots, delayed security sector reforms, funding shortfalls, and coordination gaps with peace partners.
Emphasis was also placed on resolving these challenges and identifying practical solutions, which is particularly crucial as South Sudan enters a critical phase of its transition.
