CTSAMVM in Juba hosted a distinguished visitor: H.E Guang Cong, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

On 10 July, the headquarters of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) in Juba hosted a distinguished visitor: H.E Guang Cong, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

During the visit, the DSRSG engaged in extensive discussions with the leadership of CTSAMVM. These conversations focused on the status of implementation of the Permanent Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements, and operational challenges faced by CTSAMVM, including logistical constraints to enhance the effectiveness of monitoring and verification missions.

CTSAMVM Chairperson, Maj. Gen. Yitayal Gelaw remarked, “We find ourselves at a critical moment in CTSAMVM history where the necessity for vigilant peace monitoring, verification, and reporting has never been more pronounced.”

The DSRSG highlighted the importance of CTSAMVM’s work in creating a conducive environment for peace and stability, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration and support.

The DSRSG reiterated UNMISS’s commitment to supporting CTSAMVM in its mission to monitor the ceasefire and transitional security arrangements. Both parties acknowledged the progress made so far and the challenges ahead.

The visit reinforced the shared vision of a peaceful and stable South Sudan, where all citizens can live in harmony and security.
