CTSAMVM officials paid a courtesy visit to Her Excellency Ambassador Nicola Brennan, the Ambassador of Ireland to Ethiopia and South Sudan in Addis Ababa

The Chairperson, Maj. Gen. Hailu Gonfa Eddosa briefed Ambassador Nicola on the status of the Permanent Ceasefire and ongoing CTSAMVM activities. He expressed his gratitude to the Irish government for their consistent support of the Peace Process in South Sudan, particularly their unwavering political and financial backing to CTSAMVM, which has facilitated the fulfillment of its mandate.

Maj. Gen. Hailu underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire among the signatory parties as a significant achievement for the peace process and expressed concerns about the delayed completion of the Unification of the National Unified Forces (NUF), which is crucial for ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election. He noted that despite downsizing, CTSAMVM continues to operate amidst persistent challenges.

Maj. Gen. Hailu also took the opportunity to introduce to the incoming CTSAMVM Chairperson Maj. Gen. Yitayal Gelaw from the Ethiopian National Defense Forces to the Ambassador.

Ambassador Nicola commended CTSAMVM for its efforts and substantial contribution to the peace process in South Sudan. She reaffirmed the Irish Government’s commitment to provide financial support to CTSAMVM for the fiscal year 2024 to ensure smooth operations of the mechanism.
