CTSAMVM Chairperson Holds Meeting with Ambassador of Djibouti in Juba

July 5, 2023, Juba–South Sudan: The Chairman of CTSAMVM, Maj Gen. Hailu Gonfa Edossa accompanied by his Deputy, Brig Gen Yassir Hassab Alla, Reports officer, Innocent Tukashaba and Fusion cell analyst, Ibrahim Mohamed held a meeting with the Ambassador of Djibouti, His Excellency Hassan Robleh Mahamoud at the Embassy of Djibouti in Juba today.

Maj Gen Hailu Gonfa briefed the Ambassador on the status of the permanent ceasefire noting that despite tensions in Upper Nile State, recent armed clashes in Wunkur County and Ruweng Administrative area the ceasefire continues to hold in most States of the Republic of South Sudan.

Maj Gen Hailu also discussed with Ambassador Hassan Robleh the persistent logistical and financial challenges that continue to affect the mechanism mandate’s implementation.

“The limited flexibility in aviation assets provided by UNMISS, administrative commitments such as staff accommodation and office premises and an aged fleet of second-hand vehicles are some of the challenges faced by the mechanism.”

The 48th IGAD Council of Ministers’ ordinary meeting of 30 November 2022 in Khartoum, called upon member States, to mobilize and avail support by convening a meeting of Defense Chiefs from Members States to assess the immediate logistical and material needs of CTSAMVM.

However, the meeting has not yet taken place due to the current crisis in Sudan. The Chairperson of CTSAMVM calls upon the Republic of Djibouti to convene this meeting as a matter of urgency.

The Ambassador of Djibouti, His Excellency Hassan Robleh Mahamoud said that the Republic of Djibouti is committed to supporting CTSAMVM.

“We as the Chair of IGAD will give you full support, financial support or in-kind support to encourage other donors to continue with their support until we achieve the mandate of CTSAMVM in South Sudan.”

Ambassador Robleh appreciated the work of the mechanism and said that CTSAMVM is key in monitoring the peace process in South Sudan and must be accorded full support.
