A delegation from CTSAMVM visited the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia at the Ethiopian Embassy in Juba on 17 May 2024. The visit aimed to introduce the incoming CTSAMVM chairperson Maj. Gen. Yitayal Gelaw Bitew to Ambassador Nebil Mahdi, bolster diplomatic ties, and explore avenues for collaboration.
Ambassador Nebil warmly welcomed the delegation, noting the contribution of the outgoing CTSAMVM chairperson Maj. Gen. Hailu Gonfa Eddosa to the mandate of the mechanism and peace process in South Sudan. “Maj. Gen. Hailu has worked hard at CTSAMVM, even through challenging times. The success of CTSAMVM impacts peace and security in South Sudan, which in turn impacts Ethiopia”, he said.
Maj. Gen. Hailu thanked Ambassador Nebil for support to CTSAMVM during his tenure, especially in lobbying for donor support. He also appreciated the Ambassador for keeping an open line of communication and acting as a bridge between CTSAMVM and its stakeholders. Maj. Gen. Hailu stated, “As Maj. Gen. Yitayal picks up the mantle of CTSAMVM leadership, I hope you accord him the same support and cooperation as you have me”.
Maj. Gen. Yitayal expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the warm reception and productive discussions. “Working with stakeholders as we move towards the elections is crucial in developing sustainable peace in South Sudan. I thank Maj. Gen. Hailu for his dedication to the CTSAMVM mandate”, adding, “I look forward to working with you as CTSAMVM continues to conduct its mandate”.
Ambassador Nebil reiterated his support, emphasizing his commitment to working with CTSAMVM for peace in South Sudan.
