Last week, CTSAMVM kickstarted the induction training program for its new international observers from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. It marks a significant step in strengthening the capacity and preparedness of the observers tasked with monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire and peace agreements in South Sudan.
The induction training aims to familiarize the new observers with the operational procedures, mandates, and the overall security landscape of South Sudan. Participants will receive comprehensive briefings on the political and socio-economic context of the region, the specifics of the R-ARCSS and ACoH agreements, and the critical role of CTSAMVM in ensuring compliance and fostering peace within the country.
The CTSAMVM chairperson, Maj Gen Yitayal Gelaw, stated that reports are to be done according to the core values and principles of impartiality, independence, and neutrality. “We are grateful for your commitment to this process, and we look forward to working closely with each of you in the days and weeks ahead. South Sudan’s path to lasting peace requires the dedicated efforts of the international community, and your contribution is a testament to that shared purpose”.
This induction program also underscores CTSAMVM’s commitment to maintaining a robust and well-equipped monitoring team capable of effectively supporting the peace process in South Sudan.
As these new observers embark on their mission, their enhanced skills and understanding will be crucial in advancing CTSAMVM’s efforts to monitor, verify, and report on compliance with the Permanent Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements, contributing to the broader goal of lasting peace in South Sudan.
