A delegation from the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) visited General Zakaria Cheikh Ibrahim the Chief of General Staff of the Djibouti Defense Forces in Djibouti.

The visit underscored the necessity of continued collaboration between CTSAMVM and the Djibouti Defense Forces to monitor and verify the ceasefire agreement and support transitional security arrangements in South Sudan. Maj. Gen. Hailu Gonfa Eddosa provided an update on Chapter 2 of the R-ARCSS, PCTSA, and the ongoing activities of CTSAMVM. He expressed gratitude to the Djibouti Government for their steadfast support of the peace process in South Sudan, particularly in providing Human Resources to CTSAMVM, which has enabled it to fulfill its mandate as outlined in Chapter 2.

Maj. Gen. Hailu emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire among the signatory parties, highlighting it as a significant achievement for the peace process. He voiced concerns over the delayed completion of the Unification of the National Unified Forces (NUF), which is crucial for ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election. Despite downsizing, he noted that CTSAMVM continues to operate amid ongoing challenges.

Maj. Gen. Hailu also took the opportunity to introduce the incoming CTSAMVM chairperson Maj. Gen. Yitayal Gelaw Bitew to Gen. Zakaria.

In response, General Zakaria praised CTSAMVM for its commendable efforts and substantial contribution to the peace process. He expressed Djibouti’s unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability and reiterated the readiness to collaborate with CTSAMVM and other international bodies to achieve lasting peace in South Sudan and the region
