(12/06/2023-Juba-South Sudan)-The global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a key international moment to call for an end to violence against women and girls. It runs from 25th November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10th December, Human Rights Day.
For this year’s commemoration the Global theme is, Unite, invest to eradicate violence against women and girls while under the National theme in South Sudan, is “Act Now, Prevent and Respond to violence against women and girls.”
In support of this, CTSAMVM Gender department with support from the POC cluster organized an internal event with the HQs CTSAMVM staff and MVT Juba.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness on prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
The Chairperson of CTSAMVM during his opening remarks at the event said, “As we commemorate the 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls I encourage you all to fully participate and be ambassadors and advocates to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls in your communities.”
He further noted that Gender-based violence has affected and continues to affect civilians, particularly women and girls adding that CTSAMVM’s gender-based violation reports, including the SGBV trends report and the protection of civilians’ report on harassment, loss of life, obstruction of livelihood activities, property destruction provide a comprehensive illustration of this.
