Chairperson of Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM)
Prior to being as the Chairperson of the Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) for South Sudan in May 2024, Major General Yitayal Gelaw has brought with him extensive military and peacekeeping experience. This role follows his service as Chief of the Ethiopian National Defense Research and Development Center.
Major General has held several key leadership positions within the Ethiopian Air Force, including Deputy Commander for Human Resources and Deputy Commander for Air Operations at various bases. His leadership was also evident in Ethiopian Air Force Eastern Air Base Commander and as Deputy Commander for Air Operations at the Eastern Air Base in Dire Dawa.
He has also participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations and served as Sector 2 Commander under the UNISFA Joint Border Verification and Monitoring Mechanism in Kadugli, Sudan.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from Mekelle University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Military Science and Leadership from the Ethiopian Defense Senior Command and Staff College in Addis Ababa.
