Courtesy Call to CTSAMVM by Swedish Ambassador-designate to the Republic of South Sudan

November 9, 2022 Juba-South Sudan: The Swedish Ambassador-designate to the Republic of South Sudan, Ms.Signe Burgstaller and the Head of the Swiss Embassy office,  Tomas Brundin paid a courtesy call to CTSAMVM today.

CTSAMVM Chairperson, Lt Gen Asrat Denero briefed her Excellency the Ambassador on the operations of the mechanism and the reporting process.

The diplomats were also briefed on the challenges CTSAMVM is currently facing following the withdrawal of the American support, which includes lack of aviation transport to facilitate the movement of the Monitoring and Verification Teams in their areas of responsibility.

Lt. Gen Asrat however, asserted that the mechanism continues to carry out its mandate despite challenges.

On her part, Ambassador Signe appreciated CTSAMVM as a functioning mechanism that requires support to build a robust monitoring system.

CTSAMVM continues to play a critical role in the peace process and continues to monitor and verify compliance and report on the progress of the implementation of chapter 2 of the revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan.
