June 20, 2022 Rome – Italy: The induction workshop for the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) Real SPLM and SSUF/A National Monitors begun today in Rome, Italy under the auspices of the Community of Sant’Egidio.
The workshop will run from June 20 to June 27.
Its objectives are to induct the SSOMA National Monitors into the CTSAMVM monitoring and
verification framework and to identify the critical timelines and tasks required for their arrival and deployment into CTSAMVM.
This is to ensure all parties have a common understanding of their obligations as signatories of the ACOH and the modalities of working as part of CTSAMVM.
CTSAMVM is conducting the training workshop pursuant to paragraph 6 of the Final Communiqué of the CTSAMVM workshop held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 14th to 17th December 2021.
Paragraph 6 of the Communiqué calls for the Real SPLM and SSUF/A SSOMA parties to be fully included and operationalized into the CTSAMVM structures.
During his opening remarks at the workshop, CTSAMVM Chairperson, Lt Gen Asrat Denero Amad expressed his gratitude to the Community of Sant’Egidio for bringing the Parties together and the Italian Ministry of Defense for hosting the workshop. He also thanked donors especially Italy and Switzerland for their support to integrate SSOMA into CTSAMVM.
Lt Gen Asrat emphasized that the workshop is historical for the Parties Signatory to the Peace Agreement and for peace and prosperity for the people in South Sudan.
“Our work over this week and the next is very important. Your attention, full participation, and fruitful contributions are essential to the success of this workshop,” said Lt Gen Asrat.
The workshop is broken into 10 days. The last three days will consist of scenario-based exercises to reinforce the training received during the first 7 days of the workshop.
