On 11th of August the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu and H.E. Amb. Dr. Ismail Wais, IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan arrived Juba for a 3-day Joint mission and fact finding engagement.
The diplomats were received by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation South Sudan, Deng Dau, R-JMEC and CTSAMVM leadership as well as IGAD head of mission in South Sudan.
On the first day of their visit they met with the Interim R-JMEC Chair, H.E. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Charles Tai Gituai and CTSAMVM Chairperson, Major General Teshome Gemechu Aderie for a briefing.
Among others that they will meet during their visit, includes H.E. Dr Riak Machar Teny, the 1st Vice President, Republic of South Sudan, Hon. Madam Angelina Teny, Minister for Defence & Veteran Affairs and H.E. Mr Nicholas Haysom, SRSG & Head of UNMISS and Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime, Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs & Chair, National Transitional Committee, NTC.
They are also expected to conclude their visit by having a meeting with IGAD Member States Ambassadors in Juba.
Pursuant to the Comunique of the 73rd Extra- Ordinary Session of IGAD COM, the Executive Secretary’s office is tasked with working with the IGAD Special Envoy and R-JMEC to provide support to the Chairperson of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government, on impending efforts to mediate the dispute within the SPLM/A-IO.
